Ermera, 26 January 2026 – THE GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED THE FIRST STONE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GLENO URBAN ROAD AND THE GLENO–LETEFOHO ROAD LINK.

The IX Constitutional Government, through the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), officially carried out the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gleno Urban Road Construction Project, including the road connection from Gleno to Letefoho.

The ceremony was actively attended by members of the Government, members of Parliament, Catholic Church authorities, municipal authorities, administrative post authorities, local authorities, ADN, KAK, CNA, and the general public, under the principle of “Public Funds, Well Managed,” to oversee the contract signing process and the project launch through to completion, marking the initial phase of the implementation of road reconstruction in Ermera.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place in Lihumo Village, Estado Suco, Ermera Administrative Post, and was officially launched by His Excellency the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, accompanied by members of the Government, Members of the National Parliament, Municipal Authorities, the Administrative Post Administrator, Suco Chiefs, Village Chiefs, cultural elders, and the local community. The ceremony was secured by F-FDTL and PNTL.

The groundbreaking for the Gleno Urban Road Construction and the Gleno–Letefoho road link marks an important step in the development of Ermera Municipality. This project is not merely a political symbol, but also a response to the real needs of the community for safe and adequate road access.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the Minister of Public Works also signed contracts with the companies that won the construction projects.

In his remarks, the PAM of Ermera, Mr. José Martinho dos Santos Soares, expressed his appreciation to the central Government and all parties whose strong efforts made the road launching ceremony possible, with the objective of improving access and promoting development in Ermera Municipality.

Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão stated that the groundbreaking ceremony is part of the Government’s commitment to the people, based on the principle that “hope does not deceive,” because infrastructure forms the foundation of national development, including roads, water, electricity, and other infrastructure. The Prime Minister also requested that the MOP pay attention to the road linking the Aiseo area due to its historical value during the resistance period.

The Gleno–Letefoho Road Project will be implemented by CCECC Company with a total budget of US$ 38,800,054.00, while the Gleno Urban Road Project will be undertaken by Shabryca Construction Unip.
