Dili, December 1st, 2022 – His Excellency the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, welcomed, for the first time, this Thursday, at the Government Palace, the Australian Government Special Representative for the Greater Sunrise Project, Steve Brack, appointed by the Government of Australia, last October, to assist in the development of this oil field in the Timor Sea.
In a very smooth meeting, the Australian Government Special Representative for the Greater Sunrise Project introduced himself to the Head of Government and, at the same time, heard from the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, the Timor-Leste Government’s expectations on the development process of this oil field.
The Head of Government expressed his satisfaction and welcomed Steve Brack to Timor-Leste. Steve Brack knows Timor-Leste and its leaders well and the Timorese Head of Government had no doubts about his appointment as the Australian Government’s Special Representative for the Greater Sunrise Project.
The Head of Government believes Mr. Steve Brack’s appointment will help accelerate the development of the Greater Sunrise field, leading to economic development for the people of Timor-Leste. The Chief Executive also added that Timor-Leste’s policy option for the Greater Sunrise field implies the connection of the pipeline to Timor-Leste, since, in the case of the Bayu Undan field, the connection was made to Australia, showing confidence that the Special Representative of the Australian Government will consider this position of Timor-Leste.
On his side, the Special Representative of the Australian Government for the Greater Sunrise Project pledged to make every effort so that the project can be implemented, in a way that economically benefits the Timor-Leste people, since, in principle, the Australian Government attributes great importance to this project. Steve Brack also committed to speaking with the Joint Venture Partners to find solutions for implementation. END
